Eric Schmidt says final Google Glass device is a year away

GOOGLE CHAIRMAN Eric Schmidt has said that the public release of Google Glass is still a year away.
Schmidt told BBC Radio 4's World at One programme that developers are starting to receive units and that it will take a year before the final consumer edition becomes available.
Schmidt said the first batch of Google Glass owners selected through its Explorer programme are starting to receive their devices now, and that there will be thousands of devices in use over the next few months. He said that feedback from developers will be integrated into a final consumer product, but added that such a device is "probably a year or so away".
Google Glass has already generated fierce debate over privacy concerns. Schmidt said that companies like Google "have a very important responsibility to keep your information safe but you have a responsibility as well, which is to understand what you're doing, how you're doing it, and behave appropriately and also keep everything up to date".
Schmidt is famous for telling CNBC, "If you have something that you don't want anyone to know, maybe you shouldn't be doing it in the first place." But of course with Google Glass, there is always the possibility that it can capture not only what the wearer is doing but also oblivious members of the public, without their consent.
With Schmidt having said that the public release of Google Glass is still a year away, those who frequent strip clubs in Las Vegas can continue their patronage without fear of being scanned by Google, at least for a while longer.
