New iPhones: the key facts


  • Looks almost identical to the iPhone 5
  • Will cost $869, $999 and $1129 for the 16, 32 and 64GB models in Australia
  • Height: 123.8mm, width: 58.6mm, weight 112g
  • Comes in ‘space grey’, gold and silver
  • Notable innovations are a fingerprint-reading security sensor built into the home button and a 64-bit processing chip, meaning it works faster; both are firsts in smartphone technology
  • Battery should give some 10 hours of talk, browsing or video playback time or 40 hours of music listening
  • Gaming performance ramped up with new standard for embedded, accelerated 3D graphics, known as OpenGL ES
  • Camera overhauled, with new lens, enhanced automatic mode, slow-motion effect and ‘true-tone’ flash
  • Pre-orders start on September 13
  • Will go on sale in Australia, the US, Canada, China, France, Germany, Japan, Singapore and the UK on September 20

  • Will cost $739 and $869 for 16 and 32GB models
  • Height: 124.4mm, width: 59.2mm, weight 132g
  • Available in white, pink, yellow, blue and green. Users can buy coloured silicon and microfiber-lined cases to change the colour again and users can match the wallpaper with the colour of the case
  • Features a larger battery, an 8 megapixel camera along with 3 x video zoom. Apple users can zoom in when taking video for the first time
  • Is capable of downloads of up to 100 megabits per second
  • Pre-orders start on September 13
  • Will go on sale in Australia, US, Canada, China, France, Germany, Japan, Singapore and the UK on September 20
